Using it for logging my books with LibraryThing
Bluetooth lets me hook this barcode scanner up to my phone or laptop. It reads all the standard types of basic barcodes and QR codes. I use it with a free LibraryThing account to scan barcodes for books on my shelves and add them to my database.

Very powerful scanner for integrated applications
If all you need is a scanner to read UPC codes, this is much more than you need. It will do that job very well, of course, but it doesn’t come set up in that mode by default. You will need to keep the user manual handy. It contains several bar and block codes used for setting up the various modes and options. The unit comes with a USB-A receiver. Plug it into the computer then press and hold the trigger until the scanner beeps to turn it on and connect. Using the device in this way gives the longest range. However, you do not need to use the USB receiver if your computer or tablet has Bluetooth. Setup in that mode is slightly more complicated but enables connection with devices that do not have a USB-A port such as smartphones and tablets. The scanner operates in several modes. For typical Point-of-Sale scanner use, choose the Instant Upload Mode. Most of those scanners add a carriage return to the end of the code but this one does not do that by default. The manual has an Add CR barcode to scan which sets the scanner to add the carriage return to the end of the scanned code. The scanner also has a Bluetooth Keyboard mode barcode in the manual. This code is scanned to connect the device over Bluetooth. Once connected, scan the Instant Upload Mode barcode to begin scanning.Use the included USB-A to USB-C cable with any USB power source to charge the battery. I haven’t fully tested the battery life but have only charged it once when it was received. This version does not come with a charging cradle, but there are contacts on the bottom apparently designed to be used with one. If you have a need for continuous use, you probably should order a second battery and charging station. For typical continuous use less than 24 hours, simply plugging the cable into the device to charge at end of shift is likely sufficient. For those looking to create a dedicated application to integrate scanning into an inventory management process, this scanner should give you all the flexibility needed to operate connected to the application and also operate disconnected for scanning and later upload. It reads 1D, 2D and block codes.I particularly like the green LED projected target image. It helps both with setting the distance to the code and alignment. Although the listing photographs show the targeting image on a tablet, it doesn’t show up on a glass screen. It shows up clearly on paper objects. The scanner will read codes displayed on a screen even though the targeting image is not visible. Some scanners have problems reading screen images, but this one reads them easily. If you’re not a programmer, setting this scanner up may seem a bit daunting. It’s a very powerful and flexible scanner, but that also means that the number of possible options make it less intuitive. As I stated at the outset, this is much more powerful than the typical barcode scanner. It’s exactly what is needed for powerful integrated applications and will likely make those applications easier to develop.

    Easy Setup, Functional, And Reliable
This scanner simply works like it should. I had zero problems getting the Bluetooth to pair with my Windows 10 PC. And once connected, I was able to scan my barcodes into a text file. I plan on using it with databases and custom Android apps (that I’m working on).You can actually download the PDF manual on the manufacturer’s Website. Simply search for “TEEMI TMSL-59CR_2.pdf” on the Internet.PROs- Easy setupIt took me less than a minute to figure out how to pair this with my PC and start scanning away.- Build QualityThis devices has quite a bit of heft to it. The quality of construction feels robust and its overall appearance screams quality.- Scans paper AND LCD screensSome scanners don’t pick up LCD screen; this one does!- Internal MemoryThis device allows you to scan up to 20,000 bar codes to the device itself. You can then download them to the target location later.CONs- Non-Searchable PDF ManualThis is a niggle, but I can’t do a textual search in the PDF manual I downloaded from the manufacturer’s Website. Here’s a rundown on the basics on PAIRING and SCANNING as well as more advanced concepts on CONFIGURATION:PAIRINGTo pair this device with a phone or computer using Bluetooth, turn to the section on pairing in the manual (either paper or pdf). Scan the barcode to put it in discovery mode for pairing. Go to Bluetooth Pairing on your computer/tablet/pc/etc. and look for the device named TMSL59D1020 and select it. Your devices should now be paired.SCANNINGYou can now scan any barcode and have it input into the program that is active. This scanner acts like your keyboard, except instead of you having to manually enter the input with your keyboard, this scanner reads the barcode, translates them into numbers, and types it all out for you. You can try this using Notepad and see those number appear in text.CONFIGURATIONThere are options you can configure, simply by scanning the barcode associated with the option in the manual. So, DON’T lose your manual!! I recommend downloading it in PDF format from the manufacturer’s Website. Here are some examples of the configurations:- Activate IMb (Intelligent Mail barcode)- Activate QR code- Remove the initial zero at the beginning of a UPC-A code- Add carriage return after each scan. (A carriage return is a signal for some programs a barcode has been read, and to get ready for the next input.)ACCESSORIES- Bluetooth Dongle (included) — for devices not equipped with Bluetooth- Battery Charger (not included)Link: Battery Charger- Cradle (not included)The cradle for this scanner doesn’t appear to be sold separately (at least not on Amazon). If you want the scanner with the cradle, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU to buy the BUNDLE that comes with the cradle.CONCLUSIONThis scanner is easy to set up, functional, and reliable. Recommended!

  5. Rod C

    Tough scanner
I’ve used many different USB / wireless scanners. This one works just like it should. Scans anything you could throw at it. I also tested it with some damaged / partial barcodes and it works just fine. It’s on par with some more expensive barcode scanners I have. I do think it’s a but pricey for what you get but you are also paying for the heavy duty aspect of it. I have dropped it a couple times from about 5 feet and no issues. It’s also supposed to be water resistent too. So you are paying a bit more for this ruggedized type of scanner. But as anyone knows, tools like this in a warehouse usually take a beating. It does keep it’s charge for long time and I haven’t run into any issues with it yet.
