I have the thinnest most flat hair. This is a lifesaver. I use it on my roots and it has an amazing design that offers a concealed root lifting heat styling technique. I didn’t believe it could do that. It outperforms my Dyson I’d air styler.

Great for adding volume to thin hair. BUT – read and follow the instructions.
For me, the key to success with the Rootie by Voluum instrument is: (The 1.5 inch was perfect for my mid-length hair, past the shoulders).1. 320 degrees is plenty hot enough. Any hotter, and you can damage your hair.2. I only use this tool 1-2 times a week. Any more and I think it would lead to damage.2. Do not “clamp” down hard and long. The goal here is not to “crimp” your hair. That’s not the purpose of this tool.3. Only use it on the roots and on the “under” sections of your hair – never anywhere else.4. NEVER hold the hair between the clamping tool for longer than 2-3 seconds. Clamp it, open and remove the tool, and check the volume. If you think it’s not enough, do it again for 2-3 seconds. But trust me, there will be more volume there than you think when you do this in several sections and then proceed to style – avoid using it on the thinnest, baby hairs near the face. I find those hairs are not strong enough to sustain the heat and they’re harder to hide the clamp marks if you hold down too long/too hard.5. No matter how ‘thin’ you think your hair is, you always want to use this only on the roots UNDER the top layer of your hair, never on the outer layer. So, using a comb, fold a top section over, clamp the under section at the root, and release. Do the other side and the back, near the crown.That’s it – for me, the whole thing takes less than 5 minutes, but it does create lift and volume. My hair is about two or three inches past my shoulders.Lastly, I use the following after-shower hair products: Aveda, Pure Abundance Style Prep, Aveda thickening tonic, and BB Don’t Blow It Thick Hair Styler, (yes, I DO realize it’s for people with thick hair. Buy it anyway. It’s a miracle worker). I use all three of these on towel-dried hair, then dry it with my Dyson dryer. All of these things combined have been a game-changer for me (oh, and following the “Fine Hair Friends” group on Facebook – lots of great tips there).I do believe this product was worth the money for me.

I am not leaving a review with “before” and “after” shots as those have been well covered and mine looked like everyone elses…I really appreciate it when people leave pics. That is really helpful.Here is what I think about this “volumizing” iron… my opinion may differ from yours, but that is ok!1. It takes a few tries to get the best effective technique down (making sure to get just the under layers and leave enough top layer to cover the crimping), but it is fairly easy eventually – it comes with the really nice, strong clips and a rat tail type brush that helps you separate your layers. My hair is medium thickness in my opinion and the clips held large volumes of my hair to the side as I worked with the under layer. The iron has a power on/off button and a “+” and “-” to raise and lower the temperature. They give you an idea on what temp to use by what your natural hair thickness is. It does NOT have an “auto power off” feature, so do remember to turn it off. It did take quite a long time to cool off too. So I wouldn’t leave it near anything delicate while it cools.2. It is basically a crimper…. a waffle style crimper. The waffle crimps are what gives you that “volume” or body. The “waffle” crimp pattern spreads the hair out below the crimp – and adds some, but less volume where the waffle crimp actually is. You definitely want to avoid the front 1″ to 1 1/2″ around your face to avoid the crimp showing, as they recommend. It also comes with a very helpful instruction/FAQ booklet to help you get started. In addition, it comes with a very handy heat resistant travel pouch. All nice additions. But at this price, believe me you paid for every single item included at SUPER high prices!3. While it did provide some body without backcombing/ratting… it is kinda of labor intensive I think. I went back several times to re-crimp areas to build up the desired body. I am just not sure it’s something I would do every day. But that is just me. I am at a point in my life where I want to simplify my life and my routines… But I might do it for a special occasion. Side note: It didn’t last more than one day in my hair. I would need to redo the crimping everyday. Mostly I just used at my crown area… I like just a little volume there and a “little” volume is basically all you can do in the crown area because the only “volume” you can get is the waffle pattern.4. Also, it seems to really dry my hair out – maybe that’s part of the “volume” ability? But those with more oily hair may find that appealing (?) Others had said that it also worked as a “straightener”…. Hmmm… It just really frizzed/fuzzed out my ends and it wasn’t really smooth either… I think it works best as a waffle crimper. I would NOT agree that it doubles as a straightener or flatner.5. The price is really ridiculous. (one star off for that) – Their marketing works… I mean, I bought it… along with hundreds of others… but let’s face it.. it’s worth about $50 tops even with the clips, the brush and travel case! They ARE making bank and good for them.All in all, I am keeping it. I will use it for those special occasions that I feel I need a “lift.” It arrived in perfect condition, unopened and quickly (I have prime). At this price point I can’t really recommend it because it is seriously overpriced. It’s just too expensive for what it does in my opinion. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new information seem useful!

The hair gods have finally answered my prayers!! I have very fine, thinning hair with a few areas that are balding. Previously, I coud never get my hair to have any kind of lasting volume. I had to use a ton of product and take a lot of time to get half of the results I get with Voloom. It’s ridiculously easy and fast to use. It lasts all day, I can run my fingers through my hair without ruining it, and it helps me to not wash my hair everyday. Do yourself a favor and buy one!!

Just received my voloom today and i absolutely cannot be happier with the product. It looks sleeker and smaller than I expected. My hair is very fine and thin so I tried it at 320 degrees first. I have been using straight iron to curl my hair for years so I am quite familiar with sectioning my hair, so it took me less than 5 minutes to create great volume. But it has been very hot here so after sweating for a bit I wanted to add more volume to the hair. I changed the heat to 340 and again, within 5 minutes I got amazing volume in my hair. I saw some reviews about the machine breaking down so I will see how it works after a few months but for now, I have not tried anything else (powder, mouse, curling, blowing dry techniques… etc) that works better than this! so happy 🙂

So, this thing is a game changer. I honestly bought it thinking i would try it out, be disappointed and return it but man does this thing work. I have medium hair and on me the volume is noticeable but still very natural, I’ve found it makes the most dramatic difference on fine hair but still it gives beautiful volume that lasts for a few days or until you wash your hair. I would highly recommend this.
